Year 1998

Rondo

At the turn of 1997 and 1998, thoughts began to emerge about transforming the “theatre club” into a fully-fledged independent theatre. Daniel started taking his group in Goleniów more seriously, gradually distancing himself from acting in Szczecin theatres. The “Bramowicze” (members of Brama) grew increasingly close, new people joined, while some left, swept away by university or adult life. A few months had passed since the last premiere, and the energetic young people were eager to create something new—something both “genuinely” theatrical and wildly experimental, playing with conventions.

This led to the selection of a classic farce by Stanisław Dobrzański, adapted by Julian Tuwim, The Soldier of the Queen of Madagascar. This time, it was not under the name of the Theatre Group of the Goleniów Cultural Center, but as Teatr Brama.

The performance was revived twice—in 1999 and 2000—and the third version featured a remarkable 54 people on stage!

“It was a big production. One of the largest I’ve ever done. At its peak, over 50 people performed on stage. The play had three versions. The first was small and intimate, performed in the Wolińska Gate, with scenes taking place on different floors. Later, it was staged on the large stage of the Cultural Center. It was the first and only time I announced an open casting call in a newspaper. Many new people signed up, including adults eager for a theatre adventure. Many of them were a generation older. Some of them still collaborate with Brama to this day.”
