Year 2012
III Łaknienia
After opening its new home for the community, Teatr Brama had to rebuild its position in the city’s cultural space. As part of the International Theatre Day in Goleniów, the third edition of the “live” young theatre meetings, Łaknienia, was organized. The second edition, held in 2007 without Brama’s involvement, lost momentum (likely due to the absence of Daniel and “his” people), and the idea faded away. To breathe new life into the city and show the forming Young Brama the joy of gathering, one of the most important competitions for young off-theatre in Poland was revived, now organized by the Teatr Brama Association. These meetings provided the perfect platform to ask essential and challenging questions about the nature of youth theatre. Teatr Brama hosted young artists from across Poland, creating an environment welcoming to anyone pursuing theatrical endeavors. Performances at Łaknienia included: Pomarańcze w Uchu na Skarpie bez Kartki, Grupa Teatralna Forma, Teatr Abanoia, Teatr KOD, Kościański Teatr Kameralny, Teatr Planeta M, Teatr Na Chwilę, Skawanter, Teatr Tetraedr, and Teatr Bełchatowskich Uciekinierów.
XIII BRAMAT
The 13th Theatre Meetings – BRAMAT opened with a street performance in Goleniów, created in collaboration with a theatre in Greifswald. This edition was minimalist in its approach, as the BRAMAT festival took place in Brama’s new headquarters at the amphitheater, which itself was a spectacular event that influenced the festival’s atmosphere. By 2012, BRAMAT was already a recognized name in Poland, which led to a curated selection of theatre groups. The festival showcased productions that offered meaningful commentary on the contemporary world while remaining manageable for Brama to organize. Both Daniel and the Goleniów audience had grown in their theatrical knowledge, so the emphasis was placed on quality over quantity. Highlights included performances by Teatr Ósmego Dnia and Porywacze Ciał. There were also numerous musical events, featuring international groups and bands, as well as performances by the ever-reliable Dikanda and the local Wood & Brass Band.
II EVS
In 2012, Teatr Brama participated in the European Voluntary Service (EVS) project (now known as the European Solidarity Corps) for the second time, hosting two volunteers for a year from different parts of Europe: Efstathios Gavras from Greece and Vasilkevicius Mantas from Lithuania. “Statis,” as the group affectionately called him, seamlessly integrated into the team and continues to stay in touch with Brama members to this day.
Academy of Alternative Theatre
From April to December 2012, Goleniów hosted the Academy of Alternative Theatre (ATA), a nine-month pilot educational project initiated by Teatr Brama. It targeted leaders of theatre groups and cultural animators from across Poland. Participants attended ten four-day sessions, which included theatre and vocal workshops, practical training, consultations, and lectures on the role and history of alternative theatre in Poland and globally. Each session featured renowned theatre creators who presented their productions, conducted workshops, shared their experiences, and inspired participants to undertake their own cultural initiatives. The project aimed to build a network of cooperating and mutually supportive local centers and groups led by individuals passionate about fostering culture through proven methods, offering participants a foundation for launching their own initiatives.
ATA brought Patryk Bednarski to Goleniów, a current member of Brama’s “crew,” who contributes both on stage and in the office, working on projects and external communications. The project was executed in collaboration with Teatr Kana and Teatr Krzyk.
